Tiny house communities: what is planned and what is already in place

In Germany, more and more settlements with mini houses are being built. Many already exist, and more are in the planning stages. Here is an overview.

  • Completion in 2026
  • 36 residential units
  • Special feature: This is an urban property that will be made available for ten years.

Tiny house village for senior citizens in the Sauerland region

  • Eight houses
  • For senior citizens
  • Special feature: Elderly people or those in need of care have direct access to the retirement home here. In addition, their relatives are allowed to move into the tiny house with them.

Tiny house village in Burgrieden

  • Since 2023
  • Current status: 15 houses
  • Up to 25 houses plus community house possible.
  • For lease.

Tiny House Village Mehlmeisel in the Bavarian Fichtelgebirge mountains

  • Since 2017
  • A total of 35 leasehold properties (former campsite)
  • Four of these are holiday homes for rent to holidaymakers
  • Communal house with kitchen, bathroom, living room, office and guest room
  • Communal garden, workshop

Tiny house village at Tempelhof Castle

  • Since 2016
  • Approximately a pitches for tiny houses in combination with the Earthship
  • Earthship is a communal house and central supply with, for example, wet area, kitchen, conservatory, workshop, etc.

Tiny house settlement in Karlsruhe-Ettlingen

  • Since 2019
  • Area on campsite
  • Rental of approx. 15 pitches for tiny houses
  • With central facilities such as laundry room, kiosk, bakery and restaurant.

Tiny house village Lilleby near Hamburg

  • Since 2020
  • Rental of approx. eight pitches
  • Communal areas such as kitchen and fireplace room, workshops and commercial premises.

Tiny house settlement in Unterammergau

  • Since 2022
  • Six houses plus communal area
  • For lease

Dominikus-Ringeisen-Werk Ursberg

Spread across around a dozen tiny houses, people with intellectual disabilities or mental illness live here – completely independently. Each of the small wooden buildings offers everything a person needs to live on around 35 square metres. If necessary, the residents are supported by everyday companions from the Dominikus-Ringeisen-Werk.
