First disaster relief in the Ahr Valley, now a tiny house for permanent living
First flood relief in the Arhtal valley, now a home of his own in the Albtal valley: Stefan Fritz’s tiny house is truly special. The 46-year-old has written down how this very special tiny house story came about.
In February 2025, I made a decision that changed my life and living situation once again: I sold my Tiny House on Wheels and opted for a mobile home. But not just any mobile home – one with a very special history.
A home with a history
Following the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, mobile home manufacturer Adria produced homes for the flood victims. These homes were intended to provide those affected with a roof over their heads again as quickly as possible. Some of these mobile homes have since become available again – and one of them has now moved in with me. The home is very attractively priced, and at 34 square metres, it is twice the size of my old tiny house. A suitable plot also became available – why shouldn’t I snap it up?
Arrival on Friday the 13th.
However, it took a few more months before the house finally arrived at my place. The site had to be prepared, connections laid, and as is so often the case, everything took longer than planned. On Friday, 13 June 2025, the time had finally come: my mobile home was transported on a flatbed lorry from the Ahr Valley to near Karlsruhe.
Of course, a little adventure was bound to happen. During unloading, there was a misunderstanding – and my house actually slid off the trailer. A moment of panic I won’t forget in a hurry! Fortunately, nothing was damaged, and after about two and a half hours and many helping hands, the house was standing securely on its own wheels again. With the first rays of sunshine of the day, we finally pulled it onto the prepared plot.
From house to home
From then on, the more enjoyable but also more strenuous part began: cleaning, a new floor, minor adjustments. Step by step, the mobile home became my home. Today it bears my personal touch, and I feel completely at home in it.
A home with a future
It’s a special feeling to live in a house that already has a history of its own. And it’s even nicer to be able to add my own story to it now.
